Ladies Philoptochos Society
We here at Assumption have taken the mission of the
National
Philoptochos to
heart!
As a duly accredited
philanthropic society, we are happy to support and perpetuate this
mission. Simply stated, we exist:
· To aid those in need, regardless of religious affiliation. This includes (but is not limited to) individuals and families living in poverty, senior citizens, those with physical or emotional health needs, those who are imprisoned, and the victims of disasters;
· To promote the charitable, benevolent, and philanthropic purposes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America;
· To promote the Greek Orthodox Faith and traditions, in accordance with its doctrines, canons, discipline, divine worship, usages and customs;
· To promote participation in the activities of the Greek Orthodox community, with the cooperation of the Parish Priest and the Parish Council.

Our members work together to raise funds to assure each goal is
accomplished. Our main fundraiser
is Dial-a-Baklava
Plus that takes place in the fall of each year. We
make and sell baklava
(phyllo-nut-honey dessert), keftethes (greek sirloin meatballs), and
spanakopita (spinach-cheese pie). We also sell tiropitakia
(cheese-phyllo triangles). Through this major fundraiser we are
able to support our efforts throughout the year.
In the greater Madison community some of the organizations that we support include:
Grace Episcopal drop-in shelter
Salvation Army
Wisconsin Rescue Mission
Individuals and families in need
The needs of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church
On the National level, Philoptochos has adopted several causes to support including Autism, Cancer, Women’s Medical Needs, Hellenic College, and of course, those of the Greek Orthodox community!
The Philoptochos Ladies of Assumption work hard and well together, enjoy true camaraderie, and also know how to have real fun. They organize potlucks, and annual retreats with train and hay rides, dancing, relaxation and bonding conversations.
